Old drug rocks for advanced breast cancer.

In 2020, a woman in her late 40s was diagnosed with stage 3 triple-positive breast cancer (ER, PR, HER2). She underwent chemotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy at that time. Unfortunately, her cancer returned in January 2024 with extensive liver metastasis and significantly elevated liver enzymes.

As the sole breadwinner for her family, following her husband's paralysis from a stroke and his recent passing, she faced substantial financial challenges in accessing further targeted therapy. Limited to chemotherapy or hormonal therapy, we decided on oral Capecitabine, an established treatment that allowed her to continue working and supporting her children.

Remarkably, this "old" drug delivered outstanding results. Within six months, her PET scan showed a radiologic complete response, and her liver function normalized after just four cycles.

This case highlights the continued efficacy of traditional treatments like chemotherapy in certain individuals, even as we advance towards newer targeted and immunotherapies. Old drug still rocks for advanced breast cancer
